HOLE 1

A short but deceptively demanding par 4 to begin your round. A wise player will take a long iron or fairway wood down the left side, keeping it short of the right fairway bunkers. A bold stroke with the driver could yield a short wedge approach, but brings bunkers and the end of the fairway into play!

The green generally slopes from the back right to the front left. Being left of the hole here is a must!

HOLE 2

The longest par 4 on the course from the back tee, one must be long and accurate. While there are no fairway bunkers with which to contend, trees guard either side of the narrow fairway. The second shot is significantly uphill and blind to a multi-tiered green. With your approach, you must be right of the flag, as there are two of the deepest bunkers on the golf course guarding the left side of the green, and you usually won't be able to see them from the fairway!

All the par 3's at Statesville Country Club are long, but this one does offer the player one of the bigger target greens on the course. The general slope right to left, and any putt to the back left portion of the green is very quick. Two bunkers guard either side of the green, and there is a hazard long. It's best here to hit a mid to long iron to the middle of the green. Par is a great score here and you might even get lucky and make one!

HOLE 4

Just as all the par 3's at Statesville CC are long, all the par 5's are risk reward holes and potential "two-shotters". The tee shot here should be kept right of the fairway bunker you see from the tee, which will leave you with options for your second shot.

The layup can be challenging as there are fairway bunkers on either side about 100 yards from the green. The bold players is best served aiming right of the flag and hitting a draw towards the center of the green. Take care, though! There is a deep bunker on the right side of the green that one usually can't see from the fairway. A very well designed hole and a great scoring opportunity!.

HOLE 5

The shortest par 4 on the course is also a great risk/reward hole. The bold player can elect to hit driver, but you must hit it long and straight! Any shot hit too far down the left side will be either blocked out by trees or nestled in some of the heaviest rough on the course! The wise player hits a long iron off the tee and still has a wedge for the approach. The green slopes severely from back to front, so being below the hole here is a must!

HOLE 6

The shortest par 5 on the golf course provides a real birdie opportunity. A draw off the tee to the left side of the fairway leaves a great risk/reward approach to an elevated green guarded by a deep bunker on the short right side. Should you find yourself out of position off the tee, the bottom of the fairway is a generous layup area and you'll still have a short wedge approach. A great hole to score on!

HOLE 7

The longest par 3 on the course plays as much as 220 yards from the back tee. It is both one of the most picturesque holes on the course and one of the most difficult. The large green falls off in both directions to the right and left. It is imperative to land your approach on the same side of the green as the flag, or face a truly treacherous putt! Birdies are dearly bought on this hole. Par is a great score!

HOLE 8

One of the few blind tee shots on the course. The goal off the tee should be to stay at or just left of the three cypress trees you can see straight ahead. Driver may not be necessary, and a fairway metal or longer iron can put you in the only flat area of the fairway. There is a little bit of room to the left side of the fairway but right is no good! The wide green here is not overly deep. The bunker in front must be avoided at all costs, and the easier putts are to be found on the left side of the green.

One of the true signature par 4s at Statesville Country Club rounds out the front nine. A fairway wood down the right side of the fairway is the safe play here, but will leave a longer iron into a green guarded by no less than three bunkers. The bold player may elect to hit driver, for which the landing area is smaller and care must be taken to avoid two fairway bunkers on the left, but if you can pull it off, the approach will be much easier with a shorter club in hand.

HOLE 10

A fun hole to start the back nine, and one of the shortest par 4s on the course. If you're feeling aggressive or the hole is playing downwind, pull the driver and let her rip! The downhill tee shot means a well struck drive leaves a short wedge. Being safe off the tee with an iron is an option as well, but leaves a mid iron shot to a tiny green that slopes away from the player and to the left. The small bunker short left of the green is not much trouble, but the little pot bunker directly behind the green can spell disaster! The wise player takes a three wood down the middle and then a short iron to center of the green.

HOLE 11

Just as the 10th hole played directly downhill, the 11th changes direction and takes you straight back up the same hill. This is one of only a handful of blind shots on the course, and care must be taken to avoid the right side. Most players will have to hit driver to reach the fairway. The mid iron approach will be to a green that slopes severely back to front, so being below the hole is a must! a miss into the left bunker is alright. Long and right is a tough up and down. Take par and run!

The shortest par 3 on the course isn't necessarily the easiest! It's still a mid iron shot to a green that slopes away from the player from right to left. Left of the flag is a must here, as any putt from above the hole to the right will be difficult to control. A well struck shot to the back left of the green sets up the best chance for birdie!

This is the 2nd shortest par 5 on the course, but is arguably the most difficult! The landing area for the tee shot is narrow, with a fairway bunker and out of bounds to the right, and trees and hazards to the left. The best approach to the green is down the left side of the fairway. Ending up on the right side of the fairway makes this one a three shot hole, as trees down the right side will block your approach. A long drive down the left side will leave you in go-range, IF you're willing to challenge the pond that guards the entire front of the green!

HOLE 14

This short par 4 features a relatively simple tee shot and one of the most undulating greens on the course. A fairway wood or long iron to the fat part of the fairway will set up a middle or short iron approach to a green where different hole locations will demand different shots. Take dead aim at a pin on the front of this green, stay short of a flag on the left, and use caution when going after a flag on the back right.

The longest par 5 on the course, and maybe the prettiest! A good drive down the left side while avoiding the fairway bunker will catch the slope and perhaps leave you in range of the green. A tee shot down the right side is likely to catch the other fairway bunker. The approach to the green is guarded by one of the deepest bunkers on the course to the right and heavy rough short and to the left. As the entire green slopes severely back to front, staying below the pin regardless of the hole location is imperative. As with every par 5 at Statesville Country Club, this is a good birdie opportunity if you manage yourself!

The longest par 4 on the golf course offers a simple tee shot and difficult approach. Favor the left side of the fairway with your drive. The green is one of the smaller ones on the course, and is well guarded by bunkers short and left. Avoid being long on your approach and always go right at a flag on the front right portion of the green. A miss to the right of the green will provide a manageable pitch from the closely mown collection area.

The signature par 3 at Statesville Country Club offers a generously large green, but is well guarded by three bunkers on the left side and one of the few water hazards on the course to the right. As is the case with many greens here, a steady slope from back to front means being below the hole is a must! A birdie here is well earned indeed.

HOLE 18

At last! The hole you've been looking for all day! The finishing hole at Statesville CC presents you with one of the most demanding tee shots on the course. Heavy woods stretch down the entire right side of the hole, and a deep fairway bunker at the corner of the dogleg is ready to catch tee shots from an overly aggressive player. A long iron or fairway wood down the middle is the way to go here. This will leave the player with a mid to long iron approach, which plays one club long uphill to one of the smallest greens on the course. A series of bunkers guards the right side of the green, and a collection area to the left is ready to catch any pulled approaches. Take one extra club and aim right at the top of the club house to set up an easy two putt par to finish your round!
